This exhibition focuses on a prosperous time for shipbuilding at Marine Industries Limited and weapons manufacturing at Sorel Industries Limited: the Second World War.
In a setting that recalls the ambiance of these great factories, it tells the story of the Simard brothers who built these two world-renowned companies, and of the thousands of workers who laboured at their plants. The role of women in wartime manufacturing is also highlighted.
A mural made up of a mosaic of brightly coloured posters, many of them featuring caricatured illustrations, presents propaganda messages that aimed to get people to support the war effort. The mural draws the eye, sparking visitors’ interest and helping them understand the lives of people during this key period of modern history.
