Today, I am delighted to share with you, through this exhibition, the fruits of my passion for this authentic symbol of Quebec’s winters of yesteryear. – André Côté
As a teenager, while hunting hare in the wooded areas around Sorel, André Côté first put on snowshoes, later using them to check his fur traps. Although he never joined a snowshoeing club, he developed a genuine fascination with the various designs and traditional craftsmanship of this Indigenous invention.
That curiosity grew into a lifelong pursuit of knowledge. Over the decades, the origins, components, designs, snowshoeing clubs, and conventions have become subjects of meticulous research, resulting in a unique collection of artifacts.
